For those of you who saw our post a couple weeks ago, you knew about our plans to participate in Girlfest, an event held October 2oth to celebrate all the cool things about being a girl, organized by Girl Scouts of Western Washington. Participating in this event last year, we somewhat knew what to expect, so this year you might say we were more prepared.

Be Prepared Period at Girlfest

Last year we were incredibly busy, barely having a chance to take a breath. We literally had a line of girls at our booth the whole day. This overwhelmingly great response spoke volumes about the work we are doing. Having so many girls, parents and leaders flock to our “period booth” confirms the need for more information on periods & puberty.

So how did we prepare ourselves for another fantastic event (besides bringing a tank of oxygen)?Girlfest game

  • Well, we started by bringing more samples and materials – last year we ran out about an hour before it was all over (unbelievable knowing how many we brought!)
  • We planned a fun, new, interactive game to play at our booth to keeps things fresh.
  • We brought an extra staff member, Mikayla (the inspiration behind Be Prepared Period). She was fantastic at directing all the gaming fun while also making girls feel more comfortable – coming to someone a little closer to their age.

Being more prepared allowed us some extra time to really check out what this event was all about. And knowing not all our readers could participate in this local event we thought we’d share some of the things we enjoyed at Girlfest.

Purse Giveaway1.  Tasty Treats: Including samples from our favorite local chocolatier, Theo Chocolate – the only Organic, Fair Trade, Fair for Life certified Bean-to-Bar Chocolate Factory in North America.

2.  Prizes/Giveaways: Opportunities to win great prizes like a Kindle Fire, or our own “Be Prepared…For Fun” Purse Giveaway

3.  Science Booths: From learning how antacids work to digging, analyzing and sizing shark teeth, to designing your own scented lotion

4.  Exciting Activities: Rock climbing & Unicycles – How often do you get to learn to ride a unicycle?

5.  Goodie Bags: Lots of freebies and samples!! Thanks to our wonderful sponsors Natracare, Softcup, Scensibles and Ruby’s Red Wash we had lots to share.

6.  Live Music: Featuring Savannah Outen & INVASION – “dubbed as the Next All American Boy Band” (and judging by ALL the screaming girls they are well on their way!)

7.  Flash Mob!!! Need we say more? This awesome element to the day was organized by Spotlight Dance & Performing Arts Center. But the best part? Be Prepared Period got to “represent” with Mikayla’s awesome performance.

YouTube Preview Image 8.  Interactive Projects & Activities: Neighboring booths like DOOZ 4 KIDS provided opportunities to get sprinkled with “fairy” dust/glitter and get sparkly tattoos, while another “neighbor,” Big Fish, offered the chance to check out some new games in their cool lounge

And these were just a few of the things we had time to check out before the doors opened!

Hope you enjoy this peek into our Girlfest fun!
