Detox Your Period
We’ve reached the end of our Detox Your Period blog series. We’ve explored the different types of natural alternatives available to you, giving you a run down of how they work, and which product may work best for your body. Here’s the thing: there’s no one perfect product out there. Every body is different, and what works for you may not work for us. That’s totally okay! That’s why we carry all types of products in our store. During this series, we’ve given you an inside look at the features and facets of each of the products, and you can use this information as a guide to making your own detox decision.
With tons of healthy options, comes tons of questions. How do you know if you want a natural cotton tampon, a menstrual cup, or a natural pad? So many products, so little time. And while you may not have the opportunity to try them all out – we’ve got your back. BPP’s very own Kelci DeFrancesco has done the work for you and has reviewed each of the different options. So keep reading, follow along, and decide for yourself which option is best for you!

Recap: The Final Showdown
I can’t believe we’ve reached the end of this series! It’s been fun – I’ve loved getting the opportunity to try all of the different products available to me. I’ve only had my period for about fifteen years, but things have changed so much even in the time since I started. It’s crazy to imagine how different this experience would be for my own mom (Who, it’s safe to say, has had her period just a bit longer than fifteen years), or how different the products may look in another fifteen years.
I’m going to share my final take on each of these products, and what I plan to use going forward. Of course, this is totally personal to me and my journey. I encourage you to try this experiment at home! It is so important to know what products we’re using in all areas – cleaning supplies, makeup, shampoo, the list goes on! But since menstrual products literally sit next to or inside of us for hours on end – it’s even more crucial that we find something that benefits our own unique bodies.
I’m going to go through and give a short final conclusion on each product, and at the end, I’m going to reveal my decision for moving forward! Sound good? Good!
Natural Pads
I was pleasantly surprised by these, and loved the added bonus of knowing that they were going to help me fight cramps naturally with the Silver MaxION technology. Pretty cool! Let’s just say these are significantly easier to use and more comfortable than the huge maxi pads I first used when I started my period. I forgot I was wearing them!
Organic Tampons
This was my first foray into the world of non-applicator tampons, and I loved knowing that I was doing something great for the earth and for my body with the reduced waste and plastic. Overall, these were very similar to the experience I was used to, so I would recommend these if you’d like to make an eco-friendly switch that still feels familiar.
Menstrual Cups
I covered my first experiences with Menstrual Cups in detail, so you know that I had a bit of anxiety to overcome in giving these a shot. I was pleasantly surprised by how much coverage these provided once I got comfortable. And these are by far the earth friendliest option, since they are reusable and free of packaging.
The Final Verdict
Drumroll, please…..
The Menstrual Cup won this product quest! Why? Here’s the thing: if you made the switch to any one of these products, you’d be doing your body and the environment a favor. But honestly, as an eco-conscious menstrual maven that is on a mission to do the best she can, it just made sense to incorporate menstrual cups into my routine. Once I got used to the application and use of this product, it just didn’t make sense not to keep it in my arsenal.
If you, like me, struggle with the idea of using these, just know that you’re not alone. But! I would totally, 100% recommend you giving it a try. There’s a chance it may not be for you, but if it is – you can rest assured knowing that you are making a healthy, cost-effective, and earth friendly switch. Plus, no more late night trips to the store to pick up a box of tampons. Can I get a heck yeah?!
