What is a good supply list for a first period?

My daughter is at the age where we are expecting her first period to begin. What is the best way to package a emergency period kit for her to carry in her book bag and what should I put in it?

lunapads.com carries a great selection of portable, leak-proof bags such as the Mood Pad Bag that are discreet (pretty patterns) and big enough to carry everything she will need including extra panties.

Check out Target's travel toiletry section and pick up an opaque travel soap box. It is a discreet way to pack everything she would need! I would suggest including two disposable pads (make sure she knows how to use them) as opposed to tampons - it is stressful enough to have your first period without having to stick something up there for the first time! Also include a few Advil or Midol (if her school allows it) and an individually packaged wet wipe in case she feels the need to clean herself with something other than toilet paper. Of course, an extra pair of underwear might come in handy, but I'm not sure how you would discreetly carry that. Maybe leave a pair in a locker or gym locker?

Good luck to her!

We'll I feel that you should give her a small little makeup bag to carry her supplies. And inside could vary, be taken out or add to. So 3-4 regular pads to start on and a couple of liners would hurt to have. Don't make her use tampons on her first period, let her get the hang of it before the other options. You can later talk to her about it if you want her to or not. Also to have in her kit should be a ziplock bag and some extra underwear (One that she would mind, she wouldn't see for a while) periods are unexpected. And some wipes so she wouldn't feel so "unfresh" through out the day and some hand sanitizer. But also explain what they are used for to and how she has to maintain her body parts clean down there on or off her period.

Kudos to you for wanting to be prepared!

There are lots of great options. We recommend keeping it cute and fun! Each girl may prefer something a little different - you probably know her best. Be Prepared. Period. also has some To-Go Kits perfect for backpacks, purses or an emergency stash. They include two pads, a panty liner and a feminine wipe in a fun sequin travel bag. You can check out their kits at http://www.bepreparedperiod.com/period-kits.

Hey i got my period when i was just starting high school i carried:

Three ultra thin pads (always are a good brand)

Two thick pads just incase (I find kotex tweens or bodyform worked well)

If you want her to use tampons then about Three? (Tampax pearl are good)

My mum put a book in for me about how to use tampons and pads if you cant do that just cut out the instructions on the back of the pad and tampon boxes,

Spare underwear

Some feminine wipes

Deoderant

I just used a pretty makeupbag and personalised it with a pretty ribbon!

Good look for her!

I would put a few u by Kotex tween pads, a few regular pads(I like always infinity), a few tampons( I recommend tampax pearl or radiant) because even if you don't want her to use tampons, just think what if she gets it while she is going swimming, but also add te instruction page or tell her before hand how to use them. Also add a few liners(I like u by Kotex barely there),some wipes(recommend always radiant) and an extra pair of underwear, and hand sanitizer.

I just bought a larger pencil case to carry pads/pantie liners/tampons in. I would recommend U by Kotex Tween pads witch are available at most places and tween liners witch you can only find in a pack with the tween pads. I don't have much experience with tampons so I'm not sure about that but they are nice if your more active or swimming. I personally like to keep hand sanitizer, ziplock bags, extra underwear, and sometimes I keep some body spray in there too.
