Questions

Do I possibly have TSS??

0

My period is normally 5 days. The first 3 days, I wear tampons. The last 2 days, I wear panty liners or pads. I started my period on Wednesday and today is Saturday. I took a shower and noticed some brown tissue-like substance on my towel after cleaning down there. I ignored it and continue bathing. After I showered, I wore a tampon but, half an hour later, it felt uncomfortable so I took it out. The tampon had a little bit of blood on it and it also had some brown tissue-like substance on it. I don't feel sick, dizzy, or anything of that nature but I also don't want to just avoid it. Do I have TSS? Is the "brown tissue-like substance" normal? Am I overreacting?

Hi,

Thanks for writing!

What you described is normal for the final days of your flow.

No, what you describe does not sound like TSS.  There's a great website that deals with all sorts of TSS related things...lots of great info.  www.you-are-loved.org.  I hope you will take a few minutes and check it out.

What you described sounds pretty normal :) Sounds like maybe you need a less absorbent tampon...

Sometimes you may notice a little bit of brown blood during your period.  Especially at the beginning and the end.  You don't need to worry.

Also, if you did have TSS, you would have a sudden high fever (usually at least 102 F or 38.8 C), vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, fainting/near fainting when standing, light headedness, low blood pressure, high heart rate.  And you would NOT be feeling well AT ALL.  You probably wouldn't have even been able to go on the computer to write this.  I would assume everything is fine.  I wouldn't worry.  It's completely normal to see a little bit of brown blood when you're on your period.  Especially near the beginning and end.

Brown blood is older blood that is all. It's 10% natural and normal to have this.

If you had TSS you would know all about it and be too ill to write on here. You would be at the doctors or in bed REALLY ill.
