Ready Girls Donation Drive

Ends September 30, 2022

My name is Grace Smith. I live in Charlottesville, Virginia and I am a student in the Albemarle County Public School System. Within my community, there is a vast disparity socioeconomically, and health poverty is a very large issue.

Last year, as part of a community health advocates club, I helped organize a hygiene drive for a local organization. Seeing a real need for these products, I felt compelled to serve even more members of my community in a more sustainable way. This lead me to start my nonprofit, Ready Girls. Ready Girls’ mission is youth serving other youth to lessen the stigma and increase access to period products through collaboration with local area schools.

Using the money raised from this drive, Ready Girls will work to distribute period products to girls at all of the middle schools in the county. Goal details are listed below. After this first fundraiser to get started, I plan to continue to serve the community by having a fundraiser/drive every year in May for Women’s Health Month. Will you help us reach our goal?

Meet the Heart Behind It All

Ready Girls

Within the last few years, the General Assembly of Virginia passed legislation requiring feminine hygiene products to be provided in schools but did not allocate funds for that in the budget. Ready Girls seeks to assist with this on a local level. More generally, though, the “why” behind the organization is to fight period poverty in Albemarle County.

Albemarle County Public Schools are an incredible place to learn and serve a diverse community. Providing hygiene products to the girls in the schools helps to reduce the stress of period poverty and helps to provide girls equal opportunities to succeed in school.
