Are Women With Certain Disabilities More Likely to Struggle With PMS Than Neurotypical Women?

Hi,

My name is Leanne, I’m 20 years old and have Asperger Syndrome (now called High-Functioning Autism), and Before I went on the birth control pill, I would get SO irritable and moody for about 1-2 weeks before my period that I could hardly control what I did and said (and no, I have never been diagnosed with or tested for PMDD)!  I would say that it’s been pretty bad ever since I’ve been having my period (I got my period when I was 10 and 3 months), but it became worse during my junior year of high school.  My mom (neurotypical, and yes, she is my birth mom), says she has never had a problem with PMS.  Could it be that women like me, who have certain disabilities (like Autism Spectrum Disorders) are more likely to have a problem with PMS than neurotypical women, like my mom?
