PMS used to affect me very seriously before I went on the pill, but my dad would sometimes reprimand me for my behavior. How do I tell him it was just something I couldn’t control?

Hi,

My name is Leanne, I’m 20 years old and have Asperger Syndrome, and before I went on the pill, PMS used to affect me so severely that I couldn’t control my what words came out of my mouth if I became irritated or something (and no, I have never been tested for PMDD). I would also have negative thoughts about myself if someone reprimanded me in the slightest. My dad would reprimand me if he caught me saying or doing nasty things even during the 1-2 weeks before my period! Should I have told him that it was just PMS, and that it was something I couldn’t control?

I wish I could give you some feedback regarding Aspergers and PMS. I am unfamiliar with the relations between the two. However, if you're still having trouble now that you're on the pill, I would bring him with you to speak with your gynocologist or doctor. Having someone else who can support your theory can really help! Your dad is a man who has never lived experienced PMS, periods, or crazy female hormones! Men often think that PMS is a made-up thing we use to excuse our behavior. He needs to be educated...do your research and share it with him to help him understand.

Additionally, let the past stay in the past. Please don't let it haunt you and make you feel bad. You can't beat yourself up over the past, especially if you've been forgiven for it. You can't change it, so leave the guilt in the past.

Good luck *hugs*
